Cluj-Napoca + Parcul Natural Apuseni, romania

Cluj-Napoca is located in Transylvania, in the heart of the Apuseni Mountains. The rugs on this collage originate from the era of Ottoman rule, when Turkish designs strongly influenced the trajectory of Romanian ornament. An ethnically diverse area, Transylvania was removed from Hungary after World War I with the Treaty of Trianon, and continues to be a contested region, with both Romania and Hungary laying claim over the land as part of their cultural heritage.
